Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: Links for Bush-bashers

SC ( 10/29/2004, 00:33:27 )

There can be and are good and bad governments on either side of the left-right spectrum. I'm not against Bush just because he's on the right. This is what weakened Michael Moore's documentary; it did too much "preaching to the converted;" it was designed to appeal to people with liberal sympathies who would probably vote against Bush anyway. The idea that government can or even should control things like wages is one that would appeal less to people on the right, who are the ones that you need to swing over.Cloning hasn't had any allies in the major media or on either side of the political spectrum until recently, and even now, those who present themselves of being in favor of cloning may just be pawns of people who are looking to develop the technology for use by an elite few.Kerry has proposed to expand federal funding for embryonic stem cell research to $100 million compared to Bush's $25 million, but either way, these numbers are chicken feed (both candidates for president are spending over $300 million just on their individual campaigns). Proposition 71 in Arnie's state has spent $25 million to get the attention of the voters, and would allocate $3 billion over several years to research. This, however, still pales in comparison to figures like the $400 billion allocated to next year's U.S. defense budget for a country that has no enemies left other than the ones they create to justify the size of the budget. At present, Americans are getting $25 million a year allocated to eliminating death and $400 billion a year allocated to promoting it. If Kerry is elected, the ratio may shift, but by how much?
