libfemme ( 07/04/2005, 22:50:45 )National Geographic is reporting a new study that reveals both the Queens and males of fire ant reproduce by cloning themselves.The gene pools of females and males are kept separate as a result. Only sterile worker ants of the species are produced by sexual reproduction. A link to the study is below.So, who knows. If females became fertile, cloning would be the only way to continue the species and males as well as females might clone themselves.
