It is just like anywhere else, if you have power, you will try to increase it. I'm studying political science right now (of U.S.). You would be surprised how much I learned, how much U.S. govenment exercised power which wasn't given to them. But if you wanna know, in resent years, ( since 1995) U.S. federal government's powers have been constantly abridged. If you would study it a bit, you would see that people have a lot of power too, and essentially we are the ones responsible for what we put in government. But most people don't know anything and get blinded by all the nice promises and elect wrong officials. Take Bush for instance, all he did is drive U.S. economy more into a hole than ever before. While he spends his money on his little war, I have to drive in LA streets like in a country roads. Have of traffic lights not working and so go on. That idiot promised some crap, and half of americans being idiots as they are reelected him.(only good thing he can't be elected 3rd time). But that is just my prejudice towards him talking. Why Americans are really stupid is because what idiot would elect conservatives to all branches of government. As of now republicans control all, House and Senate, Supreme Court, and Executive branch.IDIOTS who elected conservatives. What you need is balance, never anything good came when you gave too much power too either republicans or liberals.
