Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Discussion and Triage

SC ( 11/23/2004, 16:43:43 )

I read some of the posts on the site you linked to and found that the tone of discussion there was much different. Overall, I would say the site made for more enjoyable reading, because it was occupied by people who are there to engage in recreational discussion. However, this also has its downside. I attended a lecture once on the Holocaust, in which the speaker told a joke about two longtime friends who were strolling through a forest engaged in deep philosophical discussion. One of them didn't notice a pit in his path, and fell in. He cried out for help for help to his companion, who replied, "Now, what are you yelling for? You made me lose track of where we were in our discussion!"This site has more visitors who are "in the pit." They have to get a paper written, they suffer from disabilities or diseases, they can't have children, or they expect to have similar needs someday. They've realized that they don't have the luxury of engaging in discussion for discussion's sake. You have given me some insights into how some of the anti-cloning people might think. I hadn't heard the word "troll" before you mentioned it, for instance, and this last link was interesting. As far as your opinion on cloning is concerned, though, why should I care? It's like a medical triage situation; some people are okay as they are, some are in a state that can be improved, some aren't. If what I say to you won't make any difference, there's no point in wasting my time on you when it could be better spent somewhere else.
