alternate ( 12/05/2004, 05:01:57 )I hate to say this but nuclear weapons are more needed and more important than cloning or stem cell science.We have so far not had what i would call WWIII,weve had wars but the one main thing that bothers most countries is virtually everyone can press that button.Everyone knows that as soon as someone presses the button the whole lot will go up and its all over,so nobody will press the button its as simple as that.If it wasnt for nuclear weapons most of us may not be sitting here right now,for one thing japan would have continued its imperialistic war,the germans and russians would have been less threatened and god knows only what else including insane leaders deciding thier troops can invade anywhere without intervention or a back off warning,"back off or we'll wipe you off the planet" would hold most back.We have mutually assured destruction (MAD) and its won wars all by itself by preventing them.Obviously some people shouldnt have them,i dont trust israel with them for example,mainly due to what thier leader has said,thats not to say they will blow the world up,but i suspect they have used nuclear blackmail in the past,thats the key problem,the threat of nuclear launch can make even the most armed back off because they are not stupid,we all know what it means.
