Illegal Beings: Human Clones

New Year for Stem Cells

libfemme ( 12/23/2004, 10:37:28 )

Starting January South Korean scientists will be able to use fertilized eggs that are left over at fertility clinics to create stem cell lines for curing some 18 diseases.Another reminder that christianity is not the dominant religion of the world. Other cultures do not have the same emotional baggage attached to the word embryo, consequently a world wide ban on therapuetic cloning is impossible and unsustainable. If it can be done it will be done someplace, most likely many "some places" in the world. When South Koreans can cure their children of diabetes or cerebral palsy while American and Canadian children still suffer, a paradigm shift will occur. Either the Seoul airport will soon be clogged with wealthy westerners or the attitudes in North America will change to allow embryo stem cell therapies for all.
