A conclusion I don't think is warranted by observation.Only in a benevolent, designed universe could we expect all humans to be born with an equal capacity for rational thought. And as we know the universe is neither benevolent nor designed. Logical thought is not a prerequiste to existence. Why should humans be any different? What should be amazing to you is that despite genetic chance there are so many people alive today who do "get it". Even when they profess to believe in a God in surveys, they act in their day to day lives as if they do not. That is they go to doctors. They fly around the world. They watch pictures from Mars. They're hedging their bets. God may exist, but then again what if he doesn't? Take your vitamins.I think all the people who would believe in God as the best explanation for the existence of the physical world have already changed their minds. The majority of people who still believe in God do so on experiencial evidence. They feel the presense of God personally.Feelings are not open to argument. You are not talked into feelings nor talked out of them. They can be described, accepted, repressed or ignored. But never argued out of. In many instances they are instinctual. Believing in a God may have forged strong community ties in the past and ensured the survival the tribe for instance. People who believed in a God were selected for in the environment, hence we have a majority of them in the human gene pool now.The question now is have conditions changed? What is the environment selecting for now? Are the believers or the non-believers more likely to be fruitful and multiply?Are you wasting your time arguing with believers then? Certainly not. It focuses your own thinking. It hones your own skills to put your ideas into words. It makes you a clearer thinker. Do it as often as you enjoy it.
