Illegal Beings: Human Clones

Re: Picture of Cloned Cat

What I find interesting about the response to the cloned cat news is that people make the same objections that they do when infertile people want to have their own children: Why clone a cat when the animal shelters are full of cats already? The answer as I see it is that people who abandon or don't spay or neuter their pets should be punished, not rewarded by making other people take care of their pets for them.I see at least two benefits to having cloned cats. The people who pay to have their cats cloned are paying for the cost of research into making cloning more efficient, cheap, and reliable, essentially subsidizing research that is probably going to benefit humans too. Secondly, it's another step on the road to acceptance for infertile people. If we can't accept the idea of cloned cats, a lot of infertile people will never have children of their own.
