Illegal Beings: Human Clones

For all those religious people against cloning

HItman547 ( 04/28/2004, 13:03:09 )

This is just something for people to think about...Now, first thing's first. I am not a religious person nor do I believe in god one way or the other, but I do not agree with others telling someone that their beliefs are wrong. I believe people should be free to believe in whatever they wish. With that said...When I was a teenager I had to undergo a kidney transplant because of an unfortunate illness I has as a baby. I was fortunate enough to receive a kidney from a living related donor who happens to be the religious type. A transplanted kidney is terminal and someday it will reject. Chances are it will be sometime in my mid to late 30's which not a long time off. By then I'm quite sure I will not have the same option I had as a kid. However, with the current advances in cloning there is an excellent chance I could possibly have a kidney cloned by that time which would mean that the chances of rejection would theoredically be quite small. If cloning were ever banned based on religious beliefs or any other reason I would have to go on dyalysis and probably die before receiving another kidney. Now I don't know about you, but dying before 40 is quite a sad thing if it is preventable. Why would it be so wrong for someone to clone a kidney from their own DNA and an embryo which most likely donated by some selfless individual who wanted to help someone elses life? If you were in my situation, could you still tell me that you wouldn't support this practice?Just something to think about...
